D. Stephen “Steve” Sorensen is chairman and CEO of The Select Family of Staffing Companies, the 10th-largest staffing firm in the U.S. with 400 offices throughout the country. The Santa Barbara, Calif.-based firm celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2010. Sorensen started off at Select as a branch manager before being appointed president in 1995. In 1999, he took on the chairman and CEO roles. The company has acquired more than 70 staffing firms throughout the years. One major acquisition was the purchase of Remedy Temp Inc. in 2006, which doubled the size of the company at the time.
